ILOILO CITY, Philippines — The John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University – Arevalo, Inc. (JBLFMU–Arevalo) proudly marked its 77th Commencement and Completion Exercises, celebrating the achievements and perseverance of its graduating class as they prepare to embark on their next voyage — the journey toward becoming the nation’s next generation of maritime professionals.

The ceremony served as a heartfelt tribute to the students’ years of dedication, discipline, and resilience, qualities that define the Filipino seafarer’s enduring spirit. In a congratulatory message, Marino PH extended its warmest greetings to the graduates, commending their commitment to excellence and their readiness to serve the global maritime community. “As you navigate forward, may you carry with you the discipline, integrity, and commitment to excellence that JBLFMU has instilled in you,” Marino PH stated. “The maritime world awaits leaders who are not only skilled but also principled and forward-thinking.”

Parañaque City, Philippines — The Regional Forum on the Effective Implementation of the STCW Convention and Code was held in Manila, graced by Arsenio Dominguez, Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), bringing together maritime leaders and stakeholders from across the region to advance discussions on the future of global seafarer training standards. During the high-level gathering, the IMO confirmed that Phase 2 of the comprehensive review of the STCW Convention will begin in the coming weeks. The next stage of the review will focus on specific amendments to ensure the Convention remains responsive to the accelerating transformation of the maritime sector — particularly in areas such as decarbonization, artificial intelligence, automation, and expanded digital systems onboard ships.
