BLACK SEA — The security situation in the Black Sea continues to deteriorate as merchant vessels face increasing threats from drone and missile attacks, including incidents outside previously designated High-Risk Areas (HRA).
Recent reports indicate that commercial vessels have been attacked near Romania and Bulgaria, raising serious concerns about the safety of international shipping and seafarers operating in the region.
Maritime security assessments confirm that attacks have extended beyond earlier risk boundaries, demonstrating that operating outside designated high-risk zones does not necessarily guarantee safety.
The continuing Russia-Ukraine conflict has exposed merchant vessels to aerial drones, unmanned surface vessels, sea mines, and other military threats.
Seafarers, particularly those assigned to vessels operating in or approaching the Black Sea, are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution, remain informed of security developments, and follow established shipboard emergency procedures.
All seafarers are reminded that their safety and lives must remain the highest priority.
