PANGASINAN, Philippines — Two Filipino fishermen were reportedly rescued by a merchant vessel after drifting at sea for two days off the western coast of Pangasinan, according to an account shared by a crew member involved in the rescue. Both fishermen have since safely returned to their families.
The crew member said the fishermen had remained stranded despite other vessels reportedly passing through the area. A Korean captain eventually spotted the two men and immediately maneuvered his vessel to conduct rescue operations. With the assistance of the ship's officers and crew, both fishermen were successfully brought aboard and provided with assistance.
Following the rescue, one of the fishermen managed to contact his family and speak with his young child, who asked when his father would return home and requested pasalubong, unaware of the danger his father had experienced at sea. Touched by the conversation, the vessel\'s crew also gave the rescued fishermen goods to bring home as pasalubong for their families.
Both fishermen eventually arrived home safely, bringing relief to their loved ones. The crew member praised the Korean captain, officers, and crew for their actions, emphasizing that helping people in distress at sea should go beyond nationality. The incident reflects the maritime tradition of assisting those in danger and the shared responsibility of seafarers to protect lives at sea.
