The United States Coast Guard and Federal Bureau of Investigation are investigating suspected cyber breaches involving two foreign-flagged commercial vessels bound for the United States.

Joint Coast Guard and FBI teams boarded the vessels in the Gulf of Mexico on August 21 and August 24 after receiving indications that their computer networks had been compromised. The teams examined the vessels’ information technology and operational systems.

The Coast Guard said foreign cyber actors were linked to at least one incident but did not identify any individual, group, or country. Reports alleging that onboard communications and engine systems were affected have not been independently confirmed by U.S. authorities.

Authorities reported no operational disruption, vessel instability, danger to crew members, or environmental impact. The investigations remain ongoing, and further details about the source and extent of the breaches have not been released.
