ATTENTION ALL SEAFARERS: Iran-aligned .Houthi forces in Yemen have captured Mocha and reached the strategic Perim Island, also known as Mayun, near the Bab al-Mandab Strait, according to reports on September 11, 2026.

Reuters reported that Yemeni government forces withdrew from Perim before Houthi forces reached the island. The Houthis also took Dhubab, a coastal area facing the island. The Associated Press reported that the capture of Mayun was confirmed by both a Yemeni government military official and a Houthi official.

Perim Island sits inside the Bab al-Mandab Strait, a major maritime chokepoint connecting the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. Control of territory around this narrow passage raises further security concerns for commercial vessels operating in the area.
