The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has assured full assistance to the family of a Filipino seafarer who died following a maritime security incident involving the Gibraltar-flagged M/V Hercules Star at the Dubai Delta Anchorage in the United Arab Emirates.

DMW Officer-in-Charge Bernard P. Olalia and Undersecretary Felicitas Q. Bay conveyed the government’s condolences to the bereaved family and assured them of continued assistance and support, in line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

According to the DMW, the Filipino seafarer was among nine overseas Filipino workers serving as crew members aboard the 13-member vessel. The licensed manning agency reported that the remaining eight Filipino crew members are safe and accounted for. They are currently staying at a local hotel and have already communicated with their families.

The DMW said it continues to coordinate with the licensed manning agency, the vessel’s principal or employer, Philippine Foreign Service Posts, foreign authorities, and other concerned parties to ensure the welfare and safety of the affected Filipino seafarers and arrange their orderly repatriation.
