Five people were confirmed dead after passenger vessel MV June Aster caught fire in the waters off Coron, Palawan, at around 6:45 p.m. on September 9, 2026. Authorities immediately launched emergency response and search and rescue operations following the incident.

A total of 42 passengers have been rescued, according to authorities. Three of the rescued passengers are reportedly in critical condition, while six have already been discharged from medical facilities.
