MANILA, Philippines —The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is providing assistance to 14 Filipino seafarers who survived the attack on the oil tanker MT SIDR on August 31, 2026, while coordinating the repatriation of the remains of two Filipino crew members who died in the incident.

Through the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Oman and the Philippine Embassy in Muscat, a DMW team led by Labor Attaché Alice Q. Visperas traveled to Khasab, Musandam, where the surviving seafarers are temporarily staying at a hotel. The team assessed their immediate needs, coordinated with the shipowner’s representative regarding their return to the Philippines, and provided financial assistance to each survivor.

The MWO-Oman is also working with Omani authorities, the hospital, the shipowner, and the families of the deceased seafarers to complete the requirements for the earliest possible repatriation of their remains. The DMW also reminded licensed manning agencies and their foreign principals to closely monitor the welfare of Filipino seafarers and ensure compliance with safety measures and established protocols for vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

DMW Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac said the agency’s priority is to ensure the safety and welfare of the affected seafarers and help bring them home to their families. The DMW continues to provide assistance to Filipino migrant workers through its Migrant Workers Offices in coordination with the Department of Foreign Affairs and other concerned authorities.
