PASAY CITY — Midshipwoman Mikaela Rose T. Tercino, also known as “Mikay,” was recognized as the Top 1 graduate in the Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation during the 55th Commencement Exercises and Recognition Day of the Asian Institute of Maritime Studies (AIMS), held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) on July 28, becoming a remarkable example of excellence as a woman who topped a traditionally male-dominated maritime program.

The ceremony marked a significant milestone for AIMS as it celebrated the achievements of 621 maritime graduates and 314 non-maritime graduates, recognizing their years of dedication, discipline, and academic excellence. Faculty members, school officials, families, and guests gathered to honor the graduates as they completed their respective programs and prepared for the next chapter of their professional journeys.

Tercino’s recognition as the top graduate reflects her outstanding academic performance, perseverance, and commitment throughout her years at AIMS. Her achievement stands as an inspiration to fellow cadets and aspiring maritime professionals, proving that excellence knows no gender in an industry traditionally dominated by men.

Beyond her academic accomplishments, Tercino also represented AIMS in the Ten Outstanding Maritime Students of the Philippines (TOMSP) 2025 under the sponsorship of Intership Crew Philippines. Her participation in the prestigious program further demonstrated her leadership potential and commitment to continuous growth beyond the classroom.
