The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) welcomed the launch of Orion Jade, the first vessel built by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Philippines Inc. (HHIP) at its Subic Bay shipyard. The milestone highlights the continued growth of the Philippine shipbuilding industry and the country's ability to support large-scale ship construction.

The Orion Jade measures 250 metres long, 42 metres wide, and 21 metres deep. The vessel demonstrates the capability of the revived Subic shipyard to build large commercial ships and reflects the progress of the country's maritime manufacturing sector.

During the launch, Finance Secretary Frederick D. Go said the project shows the government\'s commitment to turning foreign investments into active industrial projects. He noted that these investments help create quality jobs, strengthen local industries, and provide more economic opportunities for Filipinos.

MARINA Administrator Sonia B. Malaluan also welcomed the vessel\'s launch, saying it reflects the steady development of the Philippine shipbuilding and ship repair industry. She added that the achievement also highlights the skills and dedication of the Filipino maritime workforce in supporting world-class shipbuilding operations.

The project has already created around 4,000 jobs in Subic Bay and nearby provinces, with more employment expected as production expands. To prepare more skilled workers, HHIP has partnered with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to provide technical and vocational training for the modern shipbuilding industry. Construction of the four-vessel programme began in September 2025 following a steel-cutting ceremony led by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
