Two crew members were injured after a merchant vessel was struck near Ukraine’s Odesa region, according to reports from Ukrainian authorities, as concerns continue over the safety of commercial shipping in the Black Sea.
The vessel, identified as the ANT, a Turkish-owned cargo ship sailing under the flag of Vanuatu, was reportedly en route from the Odesa area to Turkey when it came under attack during the night of May 28–29. The incident caused a fire on board and resulted in damage to parts of the vessel.
Ukrainian officials said the injured crew members were evacuated and provided medical treatment. Emergency response teams later brought the fire under control, and the vessel remained afloat following the incident.

Authorities in Ukraine stated that the attack was linked to ongoing Russian drone strikes targeting infrastructure and maritime traffic near Odesa. Reports also indicated that commercial shipping activity in the region continues to face heightened security risks amid the ongoing conflict.
Russia had not immediately issued a public response regarding the reported strike. Investigations and assessments of the incident remain ongoing.
