DMW Assures Support for Filipino Seafarer’s Family Following Strait of Hormuz Incident

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), led by Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac, visited the family of overseas Filipino worker (OFW) George Francis Palanca Miranda on April 26, 2026. The visit aimed to express the government’s concern and to provide reassurance following the maritime incident in the Strait of Hormuz involving the UAE-flagged vessel M/V Mussafa 2.

During the visit, the DMW assured the family that full legal and welfare assistance will be provided. This includes coordination with legal experts familiar with maritime and labor laws in the United Arab Emirates. The agency is also working closely with the Department of Foreign Affairs to engage with UAE authorities and other concerned parties through proper diplomatic channels.

The coordinated efforts aim to clarify the details of the incident and support a fair and thorough investigation. Authorities also confirmed that the family will continue to receive timely updates and necessary assistance throughout the process.

The DMW reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the rights and benefits of Mr. Miranda and his beneficiaries under existing laws and agreements. It also continues to monitor the condition of Filipino seafarers in the Persian Gulf, in coordination with manning agencies, to ensure their safety and well-being amid ongoing regional tensions.
