France has renewed its efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz as tensions in the region continue to disrupt global shipping and energy supply.
French President Emmanuel Macron said his government is working to restore full navigation in the strait “in the coming days and weeks,” stressing that passage must remain free and without restrictions under international law.

The statement comes as the waterway remains unstable due to the ongoing conflict involving Iran and the United States. The situation has led to reduced vessel movement, with many ships avoiding the area because of safety concerns, including reports of attacks, seizures, and the presence of sea mines.
France is also coordinating with several countries to prepare a multinational mission aimed at securing the strait once conditions allow. Plans include deploying naval forces and support units to protect commercial vessels and ensure safe transit through the area.
