E-Ferry “M/B Dalaray” Officially Launched: A Milestone for Sustainable Water Transport

MANILA, Philippines — A major step toward cleaner and more sustainable urban mobility has been achieved with the official launch of the country’s first-ever battery-electric ferry, the M/B Dalaray, developed under the collaboration of the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD), the University of the Philippines Diliman, and the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA).

A Leap Toward Green Innovation

The M/B Dalaray, whose name means “flow” or “circuit,” marks a significant advancement in the Philippines’ efforts to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels and minimize carbon emissions. Designed and built locally, the vessel highlights Filipino ingenuity and teamwork in pursuit of sustainable technology and innovation.

MARINA’s Full Support for Modern Transport

MARINA, under the leadership of Administrator Sonia B. Malaluan, expressed full support for the introduction of this modern water transport system. The agency emphasized that the e-ferry will not only help ease road congestion but also offer commuters a more comfortable and environmentally friendly alternative for daily travel.

Route, Capacity, and Operation

Set to begin its maiden voyage in November, the M/B Dalaray will serve the Pasig River and nearby waterways, connecting the cities of Pasig, Makati, Mandaluyong, Taguig, and Manila. It can accommodate 40 passengers and three crew members, with an operating capacity of two to three hours per trip.

Paving the Way for a Cleaner Future

This project aims to promote a modern and eco-conscious public transport system while revitalizing inland waterways as viable routes for mobility and commerce. Beyond easing traffic, it also seeks to boost tourism and local economic activity proving that sustainable innovation and national progress can move hand in hand.
