In celebration of the International Day of the Seafarer, the Associated Marine Officers’ and Seamen’s Union of the Philippines (AMOSUP-PTGWO-ITF) held a series of back-to-back events at its headquarters in Intramuros, Manila, reaffirming its commitment to Filipino seafarers through innovation, education, and empowerment.

Leading the celebration, AMOSUP President Dr. Conrado F. Oca inaugurated a state-of-the-art maritime simulator at the newly opened Museo Mandaragat, located at Sailor’s Home 3. The facility showcases advanced training capabilities aimed at enhancing the competence of Filipino seafarers.

“This simulator is a step towards the future,” said Dr. Oca, reflecting on the legacy of AMOSUP’s founder, Capt. Gregorio S. Oca, whose vision paved the way for the development and welfare of hundreds of thousands of Filipino maritime professionals. “It is not just a machine—it is a symbol of our commitment to ensure that our members will not be left behind in the future of work.”

Vice Admiral Eduardo Ma. R. Santos, AMOSUP Executive Vice President and MAAP President, encouraged union members to maximize the opportunity. “Kailangan lahat ng seafarers natin magagaling, para lagi tayong may trabaho,” he emphasized, advocating continuous learning and excellence.

The celebration concluded with a festive Seafarers’ Party filled with food, entertainment, and raffles for AMOSUP members.

In his message, Dr. Oca extended heartfelt thanks to all seafarers: “On this day, and every single day, we salute you, and we thank you for all that you do.”
