Empowering Women, Strengthening Families, and Building Resilience in the Maritime Community
Manila, Philippines – Intership Crew Philippines recently staged its “Celebration of Women in Maritimeâ€, a vibrant event that honored the vital role of women in the maritime industry and the invaluable support they provide to seafarers and their families. The gathering reinforced the organization’s commitment to promoting wellbeing, empowerment, and growth among women in its community.
One of the highlights of the program was the participation of Mr. Marville Espago, Country Manager of ISWAN (International Seafarers' Welfare and Assistance Network) Philippines. In his insightful session, Mr. Espago addressed the unique challenges faced by women and families connected to the maritime sector. He shared practical strategies on managing stress, building resilience, and prioritizing mental health—reminding participants that caring for emotional wellbeing is as critical as ensuring safety at sea.
The celebration also marked a significant partnership between Intership Crew Philippines and TESDA (Technical Education and Skills Development Authority). Through TESDA’s Community-Based Program, women employees and seafarers’ wives received hands-on training in meat processing. This initiative aims to open entrepreneurial opportunities, foster financial independence, and provide additional sources of income for families—strengthening the economic backbone of the maritime community.
By combining mental health awareness with livelihood programs, the event underscored the organization’s holistic approach to empowerment. Intership Crew Philippines not only recognized the strength and resilience of women but also took concrete steps to equip them with tools for personal growth and professional development.
The “Celebration of Women in Maritimeâ€. stood as a testament to Intership Crew Philippines’ dedication to creating an inclusive and supportive environment. By uplifting women and families, the organization continues to shape a stronger, healthier, and more empowered maritime community.
